Mbabane Government Hospital, a leading health facility in Swaziland, has launched an ambitious expansion project aimed at improving health services for the community. The project, which is expected to cost 150 million euros (about $10 million), will allow the hospital to increase its bed capacity, upgrade its facilities and upgrade its medical equipment.

About the hospital

Mbabane Government Hospital is one of the largest and most prestigious hospitals in Swaziland, providing comprehensive healthcare services to over 150,000 patients annually. The hospital is known for its high-quality medical care, state-of-the-art facilities and well-trained medical staff. Despite its reputation, the hospital has faced challenges in recent years due to limited capacity and dilapidated facilities, leading to long waiting times and crowded wards.

The main objective of the expansion project is to increase the hospital’s bed capacity from 250 to 350, allowing it to accommodate more patients and reduce congestion. The project will also involve the construction of new facilities, including operating theatres, diagnostic centers and a new maternity wing. The hospital will also upgrade its medical equipment, including ultrasound machines, CT scanners and X-ray machines.

The expansion project is expected to bring numerous benefits to the hospital and the community it serves. The increased bed capacity will allow the hospital to admit more patients, reducing wait times and improving patient care. The new facilities will also provide a more comfortable and efficient environment for patients, medical staff and visitors. Additionally, improved medical equipment will enable healthcare professionals to provide more accurate diagnoses and effective treatments.

Despite the challenges posed by the project, hospital officials are optimistic about its potential benefits. “The expansion project will enable us to provide better health services to the community,” said Dr Makhosi Dlamini, medical director of the hospital. “We expect better patient outcomes, reduced wait times and increased job satisfaction for our medical staff.”

The expansion project is expected to be completed within the next 18 months, with construction work expected to begin in March 2023. The project is fully funded by the Government of Swaziland, with a €150 million grant from the Ministry of Health . The hospital will also rely on donations and sponsorships to support the project.

The Mbabane Government Hospital expansion project represents a significant investment in Swaziland’s health sector. The project is expected to improve health services, increase patient capacity and reduce congestion. As the project gets underway, hospital officials and medical staff look forward to the benefits it will bring to the community.
