Moshi, Tanzania – Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Manyara Regional Referral Hospital is experiencing an unprecedented increase in the number of patients. The hospital, which is one of the largest in the Manyara region, has seen a significant increase in patient admissions and consultations in recent months.

Receive patients from throughout the region

Acting hospital administrator Dr Eliakim Mwase attributes increased patient participation to the hospital’s reputation for providing quality medical care and its ability to care for COVID-19 patients . “We have created a dedicated COVID-19 department, and our doctors and nurses are well equipped to deal with the pandemic. As a result, people from all over the region seek medical care at our hospital,” said Dr Mwase.

Pressure on hospital resources

Despite the increase in patient numbers, the hospital faces a number of challenges. Resources, including beds, staff and equipment, are stretched to the limit. “We work hard to ensure that patients receive the best possible care, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage our resources effectively,” admitted Dr Mwase. “We are doing everything we can to maintain standards of patient care, but we may need additional support during this difficult time.”

International support

In response to the hospital’s needs, various international organizations and NGOs provide support. The International Rescue Committee (IRC), for example, has established a COVID-19 response program at the hospital. The program provides medical care, including testing and treatment, as well as medical supplies and equipment. Other organizations, such as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also provide support to the hospital.

Community support encouraged

The hospital administration also encourages members of the local community to support the hospital’s efforts. “We are asking the community to come forward and support us during this difficult time,” Dr Mwase stressed. “We need food, clothing and bedding for our patients, as well as financial support for our medical staff. Your help will make a real difference in the lives of our patients.

Conclusion

The increased patient attendance rate at Manyara Regional Referral Hospital is a testament to the hospital’s commitment to providing quality medical care during these challenging times. Although resources are stretched, the hospital remains committed to serving the community and providing the best possible care to its patients.
