The origins of CARE

CARE (Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere) International has provided humanitarian assistance for more than 75 years, with a mission to end poverty and social injustice around the world. Founded in 1945, CARE was created to meet the needs of refugees displaced by World War II.

From refugees to natural disasters to conflict zones: the work of CARE

Over the decades, CARE has expanded its scope of work to encompass a wide range of emergency and development programs. Their humanitarian response efforts have targeted refugees fleeing war and natural disasters, as well as communities affected by conflict and poverty. Whether providing shelter and food immediately after an emergency or supporting long-term reconstruction and development afterwards, CARE is a robust presence on the global humanitarian stage.

Women on the front lines

CARE has also been at the forefront of recognizing the critical role women play in humanitarian crises and development. Their programs place a strong emphasis on supporting women’s empowerment, economic empowerment and promoting gender equality. This recognizes the important contributions women often make to the well-being of their families and communities, while addressing the unique challenges they face in times of crisis.

CARE’s impressive statistics

Here are some notable statistics that give an indication of the scale and impact of CARE:

* In 2020, CARE responded to emergencies in more than 90 countries, providing assistance to millions of people.
*The same year, CARE reported a total of $931 million in program spending globally.
* CARE has a long-standing presence in more than 100 countries around the world.

Partnerships and collaborations

CARE works closely with local partners, governments and international organizations to achieve their goals. This cooperation allows them to mobilize funding, expertise and knowledge to amplify their impact on the ground. CARE’s partnerships have also led to innovative approaches to humanitarian and development programming, such as cash-based programming and livelihood interventions.

Support CARE International

Given the scale of CARE’s work, it is clear that donations and support are crucial to the continuation of their efforts. Every contribution, regardless of its size, can help empower women and girls, help people in crisis and support communities in need of development assistance. By donating or spreading awareness of CARE’s work, individuals can join the esteemed ranks of CARE’s silent heroes – those who stand alongside refugees, survivors, and those affected by man-made and natural disasters .
