A global mission to improve lives
Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is a nonprofit organization dedicated since 2000 to empowering communities around the world through engineering and technology. With a mission “to improve the quality of life in underserved communities around the world by partnering with local communities. to design and implement sustainable engineering projects,” ISF has had a significant impact on the lives of millions of people.
Meeting global challenges
ISF addresses a wide range of global challenges, from providing access to clean water and sanitation to improving healthcare facilities and promoting sustainable energy solutions. Their projects are designed to be sustainable, scalable and community-led, ensuring that the benefits of the projects remain in the community long after the engineers leave.
Africa: an axis of effort
Africa is a continent where ISF has a significant presence, with projects in more than 15 countries. In Ghana, for example, ISF worked with local communities to design and implement a sustainable water supply system, providing clean drinking water to thousands of people. In Rwanda, ISF partnered with local organizations to develop a solar-powered irrigation system, increasing crop yields and improving food security.
Empower local communities
At the heart of EWB’s approach is a commitment to empowering local communities. They believe that engineering solutions should be designed and implemented by the community itself, rather than imposed from outside. This approach not only ensures that solutions are tailored to the specific needs of the community, but also builds capacity and empowerment.
Student-led projects
ISF projects are often led by students who work alongside local communities to design and implement engineering solutions. This not only provides students with valuable hands-on experience, but also exposes them to the global challenges faced by underserved communities.
As EWB continues to grow and expand, there is no doubt that its impact will be felt for generations to come. With a focus on empowering local communities, providing access to clean water and sanitation, and promoting sustainable energy solutions, ISF builds bridges, not borders, and improves quality of life millions of people around the world.
If you want to make a difference in the world, consider getting involved with Engineers Without Borders. Whether you are a student, professional, or simply someone who cares about global development, there are many ways to contribute to EWB’s mission. From volunteering on projects to supporting their work with donations, every effort counts.
